Goa is not only a beach destination. Churches, temples, mosques and other active places of worship are part of its living cultural landscape and should be visited respectfully.
Old Goa churches
The Old Goa heritage precinct includes the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, Church of St Francis of Assisi, St Cajetan and other important monuments and active religious spaces. Museum and service timings should be checked for the travel date.
Temples
Ponda and inland Goa are important for temple routes, while Tambdi Surla adds a distinct historic temple experience in a greener setting. Do not compress a remote temple visit into an already overloaded beach day.
Mosques
Safa Masjid in Ponda is a recognised heritage site and can be incorporated into a culture-led inland route.
Gurudwara and other places of worship
Travellers wishing to visit a specific Gurudwara, church service, temple ceremony or mosque should tell the travel desk in advance so current access, timing and respectful-visit requirements can be checked rather than guessed.
